Check if your Anti-Virus program is running properly!

Author: Anti-virus software detects malware through signature definitions. A signature definition is an algorithm or hash that uniquely identifies a specific virus. To check to make sure your anti-virus is running properly we are going to use the file EICAR.
EICAR is a virus free string of code that anti-virus software includes in their signature definition files. EICAR will not harm your computer. Now we need to create an EICAR test file to use. To do this we will use a text editor, i.e. Notepad. Open Notepad and copy and paste the following line:
X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
Save the file as EICAR.COM. Make sure you save it as a file and not a text document. Saving the file should have triggered your anti-virus software to alert you about the file. If your anti-virus didn’t alert you when you saved the file, open the file. When you open the file and your anti-virus still doesn’t alert you, you need to reinstall the anti-virus software or purchase a new one. If your anti-virus alerted you, your anti-virus software is working properly and should alert you about malware that is on your computer. Make sure to update your anti-virus software to be safe from the latest malware.
