“Hackers” Post a Ransom on Important Information

Yesterday, May 7th 2009, some “hackers” posted a $10 million dollar ransom on Virginians’ private files. They say if they do not receive the ransom, the files will be released. The FBI are trying very hard to track down these “hackers”. The “hackers” posted this ransom on “Wikileaks” (a popular place for informative leaks, usually having to do with government data).  

Phishing – A popular way among scammers.

Many have heard of “Phishing”, but do not really know what it is (and no its not just a mis-spelled way of fishing!). Phishing is when schemers or “hackers” create fake websites in which look like the site they are targeting. They will then have you visit it, and enter your information/details (usually account log-in information), and therefore steal it!  

Check if your Anti-Virus program is running properly!

Anti-virus software detects malware through signature definitions. A signature definition is an algorithm or hash that uniquely identifies a specific virus. To check to make sure your anti-virus is running properly we are going to use the file EICAR.  

Common Viruses vs Common Sense

Are you scared of opening your e-Mail? Or are you the one that will go as far as opening any and ever executable (”.exe”) from anybody who e-Mails you? Well, it’s time for you to know just how concerned you should be about your computer’s security, and how to overrule those common viruses with common sense!  

PayPal – Not so secure after all?

Are you an average user of paypal? Do you think your transactions are secure? Well.. You’re completely wrong! You could be scammed any time, even orders that you have previously done could be “un-done”!  

Conficker Virus, A Hoax?

Many of you might have heard of the “Conficker” in which supposedly has many exploits in which can breach most Windows Operating Systems quite easily. However, we believe this virus is a complete hoax. The virus supposedly has many machines infected, but if this was true, a security analysis would have found, and traced it’s connection. The original Conficker virus is most probably a hoax, but there have been many replica’s of the virus. Some people have been throwing together...
